President of Pakistan
The President is head of state, civilian Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
The President is elected indirectly by the Parliament of Pakistan for a term of 5 years and act as ceremonial figurehead. The President:
- has no direct authority in running the government
- directly grants pardons, reprieves
- appoints higher commands in military (with support from the Prime Minister)
- confirms judicial appointments in national court system
Asif Ali Zardari

Asif Ali Zardari became 14th President of Pakistan on 10 March 2024. He earlier served as the 11th president of Pakistan from 2008 to 2013, the first president born after Independence. He is the widower of twice-elected Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto.
